Whitianga Toy Library is a community-run service that supports families with young children by making good quality toys and equipment affordable and accessible.
Our mission is to support the development of children up to eight years old by providing a wide range of toys that encourage physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth. We aim to create a welcoming, safe and caring environment where children can learn through play and families feel supported.
The Toy Library first opened in August 2000 and has been part of the Whitianga community ever since. Founded by a small group of passionate volunteers, with strong backing from local businesses and community organisations, the library has grown, moved locations, and adapted over the years — always with the same goal in mind: helping children reach their full potential through play.

Today, Whitianga Toy Library continues to operate thanks to the dedication of volunteers, committee members, grants, donations and fundraising. Our toy collection is regularly refreshed to ensure children have access to safe, well-designed and engaging toys.
We welcome new members, volunteers and supporters, and are proud to be a long-standing community resource for families, grandparents and visitors to our area.
We have various membership options ranging from $35 to $100. Toy hire fees are minimal, starting at just 50c for a two week hire period. For a detailed breakdown and for more information please visit our Fees page.

Yes! Members are welcome to reserve toys, and to extend hire periods if a toy has not been reserved by another member.
